"Leadership is about more than just proposing ideas or talk, it is having the know-how to get things done - and doing them."
Hello Sherwood!
I have announced that I will seek re-election, pledging to build on the progress of my first term and guide the city through its next phase of growth. My decision to run again stems from a deep commitment to Sherwood’s residents and future.
Serving as Mayor of Sherwood has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Over the past several years, we have worked hard to strengthen our community by investing in quality-of-life initiatives like sidewalks and parks, improving infrastructure through street and drainage projects, rebuilding reserves in our wastewater system, and making major investments in public safety.
I’m running for re-election because the work is not finished, and I believe our
best days are still ahead. I have delivered on my campaign promises from 2022, delivering improvements across the city while being financially prudent and maintaining the city's strong reserves. One of the most visible successes is City Hall Park, now the most popular gathering place in Sherwood. It is so rewarding to see the park full of families; kids playing on the inclusive playground, people fishing, walking, biking, picnicking or enjoying the pickleball courts. It’s exactly what I envisioned.
City Hall Park now hosts major community events, including the Easter Egg Hunt, Winterfest, and a monthly warm-weather concert series. Moving the July 3rd event to the Greens Golf Course initially drew criticism, but attendance has since tripled and
continues to grow every year.
I would also like to highlight extensive improvements to parks across the city, including
Indianhead Park, Verona Park, and Lake Cherrywood. Once a dilapidated park, Lake
Cherrywood has been transformed into a vibrant recreational space featuring an inclusive basketball court, the city’s largest inclusive playground, improved lighting, new restrooms, and enhanced parking. This year Lake Cherrywood will have its shoreline cleaned up and the spillway rebuilt following the city’s purchase of the lake. These upgrades are expected to restore water levels, allow for fish stocking, and expand recreational opportunities such as canoeing and kayaking.
Recreation has expanded citywide, with the addition of pickleball courts, basketball courts, and new playgrounds. Youth sports now include volleyball, with flag football set to launch in 2026. The city has also expanded fitness programming at the Senior Center and Harmon Center. Additionally, the splash pad became free again in 2023, and the tennis center is now a free public amenity.
Please let me stress that quality-of-life improvements go hand in hand with economic
development. During my first term, Sherwood has worked to change perceptions and become more business friendly. We successfully overturned outdated liquor laws that many believed could never be changed. We’ve worked hard to recruit new businesses while supporting existing ones. Recent economic wins include the arrival of Aldi and the upcoming opening of Locke Supply Co. The city is also experiencing strong residential growth and was recognized in the December 2025 issue of Metro Trends for having the highest percentage increase in new home starts in the greater Little Rock area.
Infrastructure improvements have been another major focus, including completed street and
drainage projects on Country Club. Street projects on Maryland and Hemphill. Drainage
improvements on Whitewood and Laramie. Phase 1 of the Jacksonville-Cato project is
complete. Sherwood was awarded a $4 million grant from Metroplan which will allow the city
to complete Phase 2 without having to use money out of reserves. Upcoming projects include
the Sherwood Acres drainage project for 2026 and the widening of Brockington Road through a partnership with ARDOT, scheduled for 2027. The city has also expanded sidewalks on Kiehl
Avenue and in the Indianhead neighborhood and improved lighting along key corridors such as Kiehl Avenue, Brockington Road and Maryland, enhancing safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. More sidewalk and lighting improvements are scheduled for 2026.
Despite two natural disasters in 2023, Sherwood recovered rapidly. The city has since
implemented disaster recovery contracts and created formal response plans to guide future
leadership.
Public safety remains a top priority. When I took office in January of 2023, the police
department had more than 20 patrol vacancies. Today, that number has been reduced to five,
with new cadets already in place to fill these vacancies. Sherwood’s police department is now
the most diverse in Sherwood’s history and is more reflective of the community. With the new
police training facility, the police have the tools that they need to enhance training as well as
the much-needed space for the growing department.
The new public works campus will improve the efficiency of operations, improve training and
safety, as well as the daily working environment. The public works department is excited to
have these beautiful new facilities, and it will be fully in operation shortly.
Another major campaign promise to be fulfilled has been the expansion of access to city
meetings by making the committee and commission meetings livestreamed with archival video access, pushing back the start times to make it easier for working people to be able to attend in person. The livestream video has improved tremendously both in audio and visual quality. Also as promised, the city publishes a monthly city newsletter. Social media has expanded to new platforms, getting information out to more people. The city recently introduced their new user friendly website and Sherwood’s first ever free app.
I believe that I have shown what hard work and dedicated leadership can accomplish.
Leadership is about more than just proposing ideas or talk, it is having the know-how to get
things done - and doing them. I believe Sherwood is on the right track. If we continue on this
path, our future will be better than we ever imagined.”
